Description
The freshness and precision of a Saint-Émilion second wine
The estate
A leading figure of the Bordeaux vineyard, Château Figeac traces its roots back to Gallo-Roman antiquity, as numerous archaeological remains attest. Since 2022, its elevation to the rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé has crowned an excellence forged over the centuries. For more than a hundred years, the Manoncourt family, inspired by the vision of Thierry Manoncourt, profoundly shaped the estate's identity through a rigorous and passionate approach to winegrowing.
The vineyard
A true emblem of the Saint-Émilion terroir, Figeac occupies a singular position at the western tip of the appellation, on the doorstep of Pomerol. Its vineyard extends over three magnificent gravel rises, offering a remarkably rich geological diversity. The constant care given to preserving natural balances reflects the estate's sincere commitment to a form of viticulture that respects its environment.
The wine
The estate's second wine, Petit-Figeac is made entirely from the vines of Château Figeac. This exceptional terroir benefits from soils with naturally draining and filtering properties, a valuable asset in the face of climatic hazards. These qualities allow the vines to express themselves fully, even in the most delicate vintages, ensuring a faithful and authentic rendering of this remarkable terroir.
The vintage
A rainy spring followed by a scorching summer (up to 44°C) produced small, highly concentrated berries, fostering remarkable aromatic richness and tannins of great finesse. The harvest, early and carried out with precision from 1 to 19 September, gave rise to harmonious, fresh and balanced wines, thanks in particular to a long cold maceration and slow, carefully controlled fermentations. Château Figeac 2025 stands out as a vintage of great elegance, revealing the excellence of its terroir and the expertise of its teams.
Vinification and ageing
Harvest from 1 to 19 September. to 5 October. After rigorous sorting of the grapes both in the vineyard and in the cellar, followed by meticulous vinification, the wine was aged partly in new oak barrels, at a rate of 40%. Alcohol: 12.5% vol.
Blend
This Petit-Figeac 2025 is a blend of Cabernet Franc (47%), Cabernet Sauvignon (28%) and Merlot (25%).
