Description
Benchmark Dry Chenin Blanc from Vouvray
Established in 1928 by Victor Huet and his son Gaston, Domaine Huet has become one of the top producers in the Vouvray appellation of the Loire Valley, known world-wide for its high-quality, age-worthy Chenin Blanc. The domaine’s three core vineyards - Le Haut-Lieu, Le Mont and Clos du Bourg - are located in the Premiere Cote, which is considered the best area for grand crus of Vouvray. Today, siblings Sarah & Hugo Hwang own the estate and continue the legacy that the Huet family started with the help of Domaine Huet veteran and vineyard manager Jean-Bernard Berthome.
Vouvray is a well-respected appellation on the northern banks of the Loire River in the region of Tourain. Chenin Blanc is the flagship variety of this area and is produced in several different styles. The best examples of Vouvray are known for their aging potential, due to Chenin Blanc’s high acidity and bright aromatics, which allows the wine to develop for decades and gain complexity over time. The terroir of Vouvray is distinct, with tuffeau soils, a soft and porous limestone formed 90 million years ago.
Gaston Huet believed the six-hectare Clos du Bourg vineyard to be the best in all of Vouvray. With shallow, stony soils allowing for great drainage, the wines produced from Clos du Bourg are generally more powerful and concentrated. The Domaine Huet Clos du Bourg Sec 2018 is bright and pure biodynamic Chenin Blanc, bursting with notes of pear, apple, almond and a touch of minerality leading to a long, bright finish. This refined, medium-bodied wine is the only dry wine of the 2018 harvest. Enjoy now or age for a delightful treat to come.
