Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of Château Rauzan-Gassies 2025
Tasting
Appearance
This wine reveals a deep and particularly intense colour.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet is fruity and spicy, unveiling lovely notes of plum, cherry and blackcurrant. Subtle peppery hints intertwine with delicately integrated oak.
Palate
The attack is soft and velvety. The structure relies on ripe, perfectly melted tannins, offering both concentration and beautiful density. The fruit expression remains delicate and stretches towards a long, elegant finish.
Food and wine pairings
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with roasted poultry, such as duck or feathered game. It will also perfectly accompany light beef dishes served with classic sauces, as well as aged cheeses with subtle flavours.
Serving and cellaring
Château Rauzan-Gassies 2025 has excellent cellaring potential, allowing it to age for decades in the cellar to develop its full complexity.
The elegance of a great Margaux by Château Rauzan-Gassies
The estate
Founded in the 17th century by Pierre Desmezures de Rauzan, Château Rauzan-Gassies is a prestigious wine estate located in Margaux, in the Bordeaux region. Classified as a 2nd Grand Cru in 1855, the vineyard stretches over 30 hectares of gravelly soils, fostering wines of great aromatic complexity. Since 1946, the Quié family, led by Jean-Philippe Quié, has been perpetuating tradition by combining ancestral expertise with oenological innovation. Awarded the "Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant" (Living Heritage Company) distinction since April 2024, this historic estate asserts its unique identity.
The vineyard
The production area extends over 28 hectares in the heart of the Margaux appellation. The vines, averaging 35 years old, are planted at a high density of 10,000 vines per hectare on soils composed of deep gravel and sandy gravel. Located within a Natura 2000 classified zone, the estate is certified High Environmental Value (HVE). Soil work, Poussard pruning, disbudding and leaf thinning reflect a meticulous viticulture that is respectful of its environment.
The vintage
The 2025 vintage was marked by very hot weather conditions, accompanied by a significant rainfall deficit. This climate fostered an early growing cycle and made it possible to harvest grapes in perfect sanitary condition, entirely free from cryptogamic diseases.
Vinification and ageing
Under the technical direction of oenologist Eric Boissenot, alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, at a controlled temperature between 26 and 28°C for 12 to 13 days. Daily pump-overs are carried out, followed by a 20-day maceration. Malolactic fermentation takes place in tanks and barrels. The wine is then aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 55% of which are new. Alcohol content: 13.5% vol.
Grape varieties
Including 14% press wine, the blend consists of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon and 28% Merlot.
