Description
A distinguished Classified First Growth of Pauillac with a luscious and mouth-coating texture
The estate
It was in 1853 that Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild acquired Chateau Brane-Mouton at auction. Located in the heart of the Médoc, in the appellation of Pauillac, the estate was renamed Chateau Mouton Rothschild. In 1924, Baron Philippe de Rothschild took over the reins of the property. A visionary, he decided to initiate bottling directly at the estate and also designed a label for the wine. In 1973 Château Mouton Rothschild became a First Classified Growth. An icon of the Pauillac appellation, Chateau Mouton Rothschild has produced magnificent Bordeaux wines, known by wine lovers around the world.
The vineyard
Located north-west of Bordeaux, in the Medoc, the Chateau Mouton Rothschild vineyard covers 90 hectares. The vines are planted in stony, gravelly soils that capture the heat and restore it during the night, thus helping the grapes ripen. These poor, well-drained soils are lain over clay-gravelly subsoils, lending the wines of Chateau Mouton Rothschild a certain power, elegance and a tannic structure.
The vintage
After a milder-than-average winter and a cool spring, June was marked by heavy precipitation. It was in July that summer made its great appearance with high temperatures and some precipitation, which prevented the vines from suffering too much water stress. At Chateau Mouton Rothschild, the 2019 harvest began on September 5 with white grape varieties. The harvest continued on September 18 with the red grape varieties and ended on October 5. The 2019 harvest was very generous, both in terms of quantity and quality. From the outset, 2019 promised to be a fantastic vintage, yielding grapes that were rich in color, with high degrees of alcohol and a very fine tannic structure.
The blend
Cabernet sauvignon
(90%), merlot (9%), petit verdot (1%).
The tasting
Tasted as a wine future, the Chateau Mouton Rothschild 2019 charms the eye with its intense garnet color and purplish reflections. The precise and fresh aromatic bouquet reveals notes of small black fruits, like blackberries and black cherries. Licorice and mineral notes gradually appear. On the palate, the wine displays a superbly unctuous and mouth-coating texture, highlighting refined and melted tannins. The vintage gives the sensation of luscious and harmonious sweetness. With great power and balance, the finish stretches forth for a long time, leaving tasty flavors on the palate.
