Description
The richness and character of a Margaux red wine
The estate
A former tenant farm of Château d'Arsac, Château Monbrison has been a family estate in the Margaux appellation on Bordeaux's Left Bank since 1921. Today, the 4th generation is in charge of the estate.
The vineyard
The Château Monbrison vineyard covers 15 hectares in the Margaux appellation. The vines, which are on average 35 years old, are planted on deep Pyrenean gravel soils that guarantee optimum drainage and good fertility. HVE3 certified, Château Monbrison has begun experimenting with bio-biodynamic viticulture.
The vintage
The month of February had weather disparity, alternating between sun and rain. Spring was marked by frosts and heavy rainfall, before a particularly hot summer.
Winemaking and ageing
Harvests done by hand in small crates. Plot selection. Maceration carried out in stainless steel vats over 3 weeks before gentle pumping over. Ageing took place over 18 months in barrels (30% new) and in amphorae (5%), with racking every 3 months.
Blend
Château Monbrison 2022 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (81%), Merlot (12%), Cabernet Franc (5%) and Petit Verdot (2%).
