Description
A fruity and balanced Margaux 2021 red wine
The estate
A former smallholding of Chateau d’Arsac, Chateau Monbrison has, since 1921, been a family-owned estate located within the appellation of Margaux, on the left bank of Bordeaux. Today, the family’s 4th generation is at the helm of the property.
The vineyard
The Chateau Monbrison vineyard covers an area of 15 hectares in the Margaux appellation. The vines are 35 years old on average and are planted on deep Pyrenean gravel soils, which guarantee optimal drainage and good fertility. Certified as High Environmental Value (HVE3), Chateau Monbrison has commenced a plot-by-plot experiment in biodynamics.
The vintage
2021 began with poor weather conditions during spring which caused a slight delay in the vegetative cycle. However, the beautiful Indian summer and the extended end-of-season enabled the estate to harvest from 09/27 for the Merlot and 10/01 for the Cabernets. The grapes were all perfectly ripe.
Vinification and aging
Maceration is carried out in stainless steel vats with punching down and gentle pumping over. Vinification is carried out entirely in amphorae and barrels (100% French oak, 40% new). Racking is carried out every three months.
The blend
Chateau Monbrison 2021 comprises a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (70%), Merlot (20%) and Cabernet Franc (10%).
