Characteristics and tasting tips for Château Maucaillou 2023
Tasting
This vintage combines a beautiful tension with a fruity structure and delicate tannins stretching to a lively and persistent finish.
A fresh and fruity Moulis wine
The estate
The Château Maucaillou was established in 1875 and has since cheerfully spanned the centuries. This historical position on the left bank of Bordeaux makes it one of the oldest vineyards in the Moulis appellation. At Château Maucaillou, history has been written for centuries as expertise is refined.
The vineyard
Château Maucaillou 2023 is a Moulis wine from a 62-hectare vineyard. The vines, which are over 30 years old on average, are planted on soils composed of guntzian gravel, clay and limestone.
The vintage
An early bud burst precedes a summer whose relatively cool and humid conditions slow down the vine's development. Harvesting was carried out under brilliant sunshine, allowing for the collection of healthy, fully mature grapes.
Vinification and ageing
Manual (20%) and mechanical (80%) harvesting is followed by manual sorting in the winery. Vinification is accompanied by daily pumping over. Racking after tasting. Ageing is carried out in barrels (40% new, 40% one wine and 20% two wines).
Blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (56%)
Merlot (39%)
Petit Verdot (5%).
