Description

A concentrated and fresh Moulis wine

The estate

Chateau Maucaillou was founded in 1875 and has continued to thrive through the ages. This historic position on the left bank of Bordeaux makes it one of the oldest vineyards in the Moulis appellation. At Château Maucaillou, the history has been shaped over the centuries and its expertise has become more and more refined.

The vineyard

Chateau Maucaillou is a Moulis wine that stems from a 72-hectare vineyard. The vines are over 30 years old on average and are planted on soils composed of Gunz gravel, clay and limestone.

The vintage

Spring, punctuated by several consecutive frosts, preceded a summer that witnessed heavy rainfall, which led to a strong mildew pressure. The particularly mild conditions from the end of August to the month of October refined the ripening process and enabled the harvested grapes to showcase their perfectly healthy condition.

Vinification and aging

The grapes are harvested manually (20%) and mechanically (80%), followed by manual sorting in the cellar. Vinification based on grape variety and the quality of the harvest in thermo-regulated tanks. Traditional vinification with pre-fermentation at a temperature of 22°C. Alcoholic fermentation with daily pumping over. De-vatting following tasting. The wine is aged in barrels (40% new, 40% second fill and 20% third fill barrels).

The blend

Cabernet Sauvignon (70%)

Merlot (30%).
