Chateau Leoville Barton 2019

Very discreet, yet very pure aromatics, with surprising density from the very Auftakt, tannins of great depth and breed, an eternally long finish; magnificent Red wine, which combines immense power and amplitude with great breed. Perhaps not the most 'classic' Red wine, but certainly a particularly impressive one.

A strapping young wine, offering notes of blackberry paste, plum preserves and black currant coulis that show energy throughout, with plentiful bramble, tar and licorice root accents. There's a mouthwatering echo of apple wood at the very end, with a flash of violet adding a hint of purity. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Best from 2025 through 2042. 11,850 cases made.

The wine is rich, complete. Its impressive structure is cushioned by the velvet black fruits and acidity. The wine's construction is powerful but never overpowering. It will age well, ready to drink from 2026.

A dark nose here, savoury with animal tones, bramble fruits and leather nuances. The Palate is excellent, grippy with tannins that just take hold and coat the mouth but underneath you feel there is such well defined fruit - a core of ripe blackcurrants and liquorice tinges. There is an elegance to this despite the mouthful of creamy tannins that are doing all the talking at the moment. This will be excellent in time. Sumptuous and utterly enchanting.

Currants, sweet fruit and fresh flowers on the nose. Medium-to full-bodied with firm, silky tannins that are chewy and powerful. Long and muscular, yet in a toned and polished way. Try after 2026.

84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot. Barrel sample. A graceful wine but with plenty of reserve. Great depth and purity of fruit. Refined cedar and cassis nose. Vibrant palate with a juicy quality to the fruit, plentiful tannins and a texture that is silky and smooth. Fresh, long and persistent. The absolute in harmony. (JL)

The 2019 Léoville Barton is so impressive. Rich and heady in the glass, the 2019 offers up a beguiling mix of dark fruit intermingled with scents to tobacco, gravel, pencil shavings, leather, licorice, scorched earth and cloves. Today, Léoville Barton is decidedly virile, imposing and in need of cellaring. It is also hugely impressive. Léoville Barton is one of the first Bordeaux I tasted, many years ago. It remains a favorite for its combination of quality, personality and fair price, all values the late Anthony Barton championed during his long and distinguished career.

Powerful, concentrated, tannic, refined and almost muscular, the wine opens with tobacco leaf, cedar chest, cigar box, lead pencil, herbs and currants in the aromatics. Full-bodied, long and intense, with a black and red currant, spice and leafy, savory finish. This is an age-worthy vintage which is going to demand time in the cellar before it fully begins to soften and offer up all of its layers of nuance and complexities. Drink from 2032-2060.

Deep, dark ruby with an opaque core, purple reflections, and a delicate ochre rim. Ripe cherries and black forest-fruit confit is underlaid with a hint of spice and candied orange zest. Complex, textured, and fruity, with ripe plums, integrated, silky tannins, and a chocolaty touch on the finish. It is harmonious and rounded, with sweet cherry fruit and minerality. Long lasting, and a great food wine for the future.

The flagship 2019 Château Léoville Barton is brilliant, showing both the style of the estate as well as the vintage beautifully. It's never the biggest or richest wine, yet it has a classic, vibrant, structured style that ages beautifully. Pure cassis, black currants, scorched earth, new leather, and graphite are just some of its nuances, and it's medium to full-bodied, with a lively spine of acidity, beautiful overall balance, and a great finish. This textbook Léoville Barton demands a decade of bottle age and will keep for 30-40 years.

Kunz Fassprobe 2020: (84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, 13.88% vol. Alcohol) Concentrated, complex, velvety, fresh nose, blackcurrant cream, black cherries, raisins, cedar, fine liquorice, vanilla stems, mint. Dense, multifaceted, elegant palate with creamy dark fruit, plenty of fine tannin, finely concentrated structure, multifaceted, powerful aromatics, very long, dense, fresh finish.

Big rich, powerful wine with pencil lead precision. This is a brilliant wine, I loved it En Primeur and it is delivering on expectations. It's big, as is Langoa in this vintage, with damson and black cherry fruits, and tons of gourmet notes from brioche to bacon rind to chocolate shavings. The tannins are going to need a good decade to soften, but when it is ready, this is going to be such a fun wine to share with friends.

The 2019 Leoville Barton is deep garnet-purple in color. It needs a fair bit of swirling to coax out wonderfully pure notes of blackcurrant jelly, wild blueberries, and boysenberries, followed by hints of tar, lavender, crushed rocks, and fragrant soil. The medium to full-bodied palate is an exercise in elegance, with very fine-grained, silt-like tannins and beautiful tension framing the highly nuanced black fruits, finishing very long and fantastically layered.

A complete grand wine, even better selected and vinified with a touch more virtuosity than 2018 or 2015. Noble cedar aroma, intensity and freshness at an almost ideal level, great length on the palate and clearly the best value for money among the Léoville wines.

How can you resist its charm and elegance? Of exquisite refinement, with superb texture and a silky touch. This delicate wine is also highly persistent and intense, with magnificent fruit definition. Superb!

At first, a somewhat aloof nose of dark fruits, with an almost metallic, cold minerality. With aeration, warmer notes of spices, caramel and red fruits emerge. A palate sublime in its purity and elegance, giving the sensation of burying your face in a bouquet of flowers. The texture is subtle yet confident, accompanying the fruit throughout the palate for a long, vanilla-tinged finish.

The Bouquet of Léoville Barton still bears the mark of its ageing, which does not prevent it from revealing its complexity and beautiful fruity intensity. On the Palate, it is above all elegance that prevails. The wine has body and amplitude. Its tannins are fine, powerful and perfectly in phase with the vigour of the structure. A wine that combines charm, elegance and power, from the very start through to the finish. The finish itself is moreover intense and persistent.

Dark colour, purple, intense and beautiful. Very aromatic nose, refined, pure, with ripe fruit. Delicate on the attack, very fruity on the mid-palate, with flavour and a slightly firm body after the mid-palate, the wine extends while retaining beautiful dark fruit aromas in the finish. However, the texture is somewhat austere. Normal length.
