The wines of Chateau Leoville Barton are always refined and elegant, and are at the top of the prestigious Saint-Julien appellation on the Left Bank in the Bordeaux region.
The magnificent terroir of Chateau Leoville Barton is located on a gravel ridge facing the Gironde estuary. This ideal position ensures the perfect ripeness for the grapes growing on this ancient vineyard.
The Chateau Leoville Barton is a blend dominated by the emblematic black grape of the Left Bank, Cabernet Sauvignon (83%), and complemented with Merlot (15%) and Cabernet Franc (2%) all of which highlight the expression of the fruit. The complex aromatic bouquet seduces with notes of ripe black fruit and delicate dried flowers. On the palate, the mouthfeel reveals softness and greediness that emphasizes the silky and soft tannins. The mid-palate offers mellow, crunchy fruit that stretch with freshness and suppleness to a delicious finish. A magnificent Saint-Julien with promising longevity.
The 2014 Leoville Barton is one of the must-buys of the vintage. Now in bottle, it has a very pure bouquet that gains intensity in the glass, laden with blackberry and raspberry coulis scents, cold wet stone, a wonderful mineralité that becomes more conspicuous with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with tensile tannin, a fine line of acidity that lends this precision and nervosité. There is class and sophistication in situ, not a powerful Léoville Barton, but beautifully poised. This is just a brilliant forerunner to the 2015 and it should represent great value.
