Tasting Notes
Appearance
A beautiful, intense purple hue.
Nose
The bouquet reveals superb aromas of well-ripened black fruit, reminiscent of blackberry and blackcurrant, subtly enhanced by notes of cedar and spice.
Palate
The wine offers remarkable concentration without any heaviness. Its structure is built on tannins that are powerful, silky, and supple all at once, giving the whole an exceptional smoothness.
Food and Wine Pairing
This wine will beautifully complement grilled or slow-cooked red meats, as well as dishes in sauce. It will also pair wonderfully with fine game, roast poultry, or a selection of aged cheeses.
Serving and Aging
To fully appreciate this 2025 vintage, it is recommended to decant it two to three hours before tasting and to serve it at a temperature of 15.5°C (60°F). This great cellaring wine can be kept and enjoyed from approximately 2028 to 2045.
The Timeless Elegance of a Grand Cru from Saint-Julien
The Estate
The history of Château Léoville Barton officially began in 1826, when Hugh Barton acquired part of the Léoville estate. Located in the Médoc, north of Bordeaux, this prestigious property was named a Second Grand Cru Classé in 1855. Remarkably, it has never changed hands since its origins. Today, Lilian Barton-Sartorius runs the estate, supported by the eighth generation, Damien and Mélanie. The estate stands out for its unique family continuity and its commitment to the environment.
The Vineyard
The estate spans 50 hectares at the heart of the Saint-Julien appellation. The vines, averaging 38 years of age, thrive on magnificent Garonne gravel rises resting on a clay subsoil, facing the Gironde estuary. This configuration ensures excellent regulation against weather-related challenges. The plots are managed with the utmost respect for the environment, having earned HVE certification in 2020. The soils are traditionally tilled, with no herbicides used, favoring natural fertilizers, ahead of entirely hand-picked harvests.
The Vintage
The year stood out for its paradoxical and almost miraculous weather. After nearly three months of drought, saving rains arrived at the end of August. These rains helped regenerate the soils, moderate alcohol levels, and preserve a lovely freshness. The growing cycle ended under dry conditions, offering ideal conditions for a particularly early harvest, spread out from September 4 to 18.
Winemaking and Aging
Aged in barrels, 60% of which are new. Alcohol content: 13.5% vol.
Grape Varieties
Cabernet Sauvignon (86%), Merlot (12%), and Cabernet Franc (2%).
