Description
The delicate alliance of refinement and aromatic richness in a great Saint-Émilion wine
The estate
The history of Château La Clotte, a hidden gem of Saint-Émilion, dates back to the 17th century, yet its reputation has endured through the ages. This illustrious estate, founded by the de Grailly family, is a true reflection of the rich history of the Bordeaux vineyards. La Clotte, a word from the Gascon dialect meaning a small troglodyte dwelling, takes its name from the geographical singularity of its location, nestled against a rocky hillside. Upon contemplating this château, one is immediately struck by its neo-Gothic turret and its two majestic lime trees, timeless guardians standing proudly before the house.
The vineyard
Overlooking the gentle southern slopes of Saint-Émilion, this 4-hectare vineyard spreads its terraced vines across a limestone hillside. These clay-limestone soils are home to majestic vines, averaging 54 years of age, benefiting from an ideal south-facing exposure, sheltered from prevailing winds.
Winemaking and aging
Hand-harvested grapes followed by meticulous berry selection. Traditional fermentation carried out in stainless steel tanks, ensuring the preservation of aromas. Aged for 18 months in barrels.
Blend
This Château La Clotte 2017 is crafted from a blend of Merlot (85%), Cabernet Sauvignon (10%), and Cabernet Franc (5%).
