Chosen as a 3rd Classified Growth of Margaux during the great classification of Medoc wines in 1855, Chateau Kirwan has belonged to the Schÿler family since 1925. The dynamic Philippe Delfaut has endowed the estate with new infrastructures and elevated it to the height of its appellation. Chateau Kirwan today belongs to the elite circle of Margaux Grands Crus.
Located on the Cantenac plateau, in Margaux, the Chateau Kirwan vineyard covers 37 hectares of vines. This superb outcropping of gravel and clay meet all the conditions necessary to ripen the great grape varieties of the Médoc.
After the mildew of 2018, 2019 appeared to be a solar vintage with record high temperatures in July. At Chateau Kirwan, 2019 brought a perfectly achieved balance between the foliage volume and grape quantity. The clayey gravel soil made it possible to store water, which the vines could access later on in the season, thus avoiding water stress. The harvest began on September 23 and ended on October 11.
Fast minimal-intervention vinification on this vintage 2019. Smooth vinification process in concrete vats.
Tasted as a wine future, the Chateau Kirwan 2019 presents all the class and style of a great Margaux red wine. The palate displays a full-bodied and delicious texture, structured by delicate and silky tannins. The lively acidity of the vintage brings great depth to the palate, while also highlighting bright fruit flavors. With its great balance, this great Margaux already displays a remarkable accessibility in its youth, while also promising a great potential for age for those who are more patient.
