Description
The richness and concentration of a Margaux Grand Cru Classe
2018 will be remembered at Chateau Kirwan, a magnificent Grand Cru Classe located in the prestigious Margaux appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux.
After torrential rain in the spring, which brought storms, hail and mildew, the summer finally came in the month of July. The summer was the warmest recorded since 2003. The dry and hot months created the perfect hydric stress in the vineyard and allowed for a slow ripening and an intense concentration of the fruit, which was smaller than usual, with much lower yields.
By the time of the harvest, the quality of the grapes was exceptional. The harvest took place between September 19th and October 10th, following an extremely thorough selection that kept only the highest quality fruit. The great 2018 vintage rewarded the work and attention paid by the technical teams of Chateau Kirwan. The fruits displayed a magnificently fruity aromatic expression, a great richness in anthocyanins, high degrees of alcohol and powerful tannins.
The quality of the grape harvest was such that vinification took place with the least possible intervention, with only a few pump-overs and gentle extraction.
Blending Cabernet Sauvignon (43%), Merlot (29%, Cabernet Franc (15%) and Petit Verdot (13%), the Chateau Kirwan 2018 presents a magnificent, exuberant personality in a wine of great richness, while maintaining a perfect balance: a wonderful Margaux offering great promise for the future.
