Chateau Kirwan 2014

Bordeaux - Margaux - Red Chateau Kirwan Chateau Kirwan 2014 1325/14
  • Parker : 91
  • J. Robinson : 16

2014 Margaux from Bordeaux.

Both modern (this wine can be drunk quite young) and classic (good ageing potential), the 2014 Chateau Kirwan is a great and complex Margaux. This wine is 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. This Margaux displays an intense red colour and frankly gives off a large palette of fresh ripped dark berry. The attack is bold and vibrant. The mid-palate is fleshy, almost juicy (the scrumptious fruit is present) on very elegant, distinguished tannins with a refined grain (the Cabernets Sauvignons are concentrated and they slowly and perfectly ripped). The fruity finish is persistent. This wine is balanced on the whole. It is a great Margaux classic.

Wine Advocate-Parker :
The 2014 Kirwan has a brisk raspberry and wild strawberry nose, a touch confit with rose petal scents emerging with time, the vanilla aspect observed in barrel now completely assimilated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and well-judged acidity. Harmonious in the mouth with good body, it builds nicely with cedar and white pepper-infused black fruit, though it just cuts away swiftly on the finish that maybe knocked off a point on the bottle tasting in October 2016, though six months later, a second bottle showed more persistence. This is a commendable Kirwan that should give 15-20 years of pleasure.
