A Grand Cru Classe of Saint-Emilion, the Chateau Grand-Pontet 2018 offers the experience of a great red wine from the right bank of Bordeaux in an exceptional vintage.
Located on a plateau to the west coast of Saint-Emilion, the Grand Cru Classe Chateau Grand-Pontet watches over a 14-hectare vineyard, spread over great limestone, clay-limestone and sandy-clay soils. The estate is dominated by Merlot (70%), supplemented by Cabernet Franc (17.5%), Cabernet Sauvignon (7.5%) and Malbec (5%). The wine is aged in oak barrels (90% new wood).
At the tasting, the Chateau Grand-Pontet 2018 offers a complex aromatic bouquet, with notes of ripe black fruits, cherry, fresh cedar and dried herbs. The gourmet palate reveals tasty notes of black fruits and nicely textured tannins.
The 2018 Grand-Pontet has a deep purple-black color and begins a bit cedary with underlying mulberries, warm plums and cherry preserves plus wafts of dusty soil, garrigue and dried herbs. Full-bodied and laden with earth-sparked black fruit, it has a chewy frame and finishes a little firm.
