Vinum

Subtly smoky on the nose, with red and dark berries and a hint of tobacco; light palate, round tannins, well-judged oak, a red-fruited, medium-length finish that ends slightly dry.

Decanter

Fragrant raspberry and blueberry on the nose. Smells sweet, ripe and floral. Quite a textured wine, tannins make the most impact, but they’re grippy and are combined with round fruit that adds purity and clarity. It’s certainly generous but balanced and kept in check. Cool and crystalline, there's vibrancy but a sense of finesse too while punchy. This has good potential.

Licorice, cocoa, and cherries quickly develop on the nose. Medium-bodied, with a core of black cherries, spice, and a touch of leafy herbs that show on the finish. You can enjoy this wine without hesitation upon release. The wine blends 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Drink from 2027-2038. 90-92 pts

Le Figaro Vin

Score: 88–90. An inviting, self-assured nose bursting with blackcurrant berries, ripe and juicy. On the palate, those same vibrant berries are tangy, succulent, and dance with verve across the palate.

The complexity and freshness of a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru wine

The property

Anchored in history since the 16th century, the Château Fombrauge saw its first harvest in 1599, making it one of the oldest wine estates in Saint-Émilion. This property houses a 17th-century charterhouse, a testament to its rich past. Under the aegis of the Dumas de Fombrauge family, the estate has established itself as a reference in Bordeaux viticulture. Today, thanks to Bernard Magrez, Château Fombrauge shines among the most prestigious crus of Saint-Émilion.

The vineyard

Spread over nearly 60 hectares in the Saint-Émilion appellation, the Château Fombrauge vineyard benefits from an exceptional terroir mainly composed of clay-limestone soils, complemented by molasses from the Agenais and Fronsadais. The vines, averaging 25 years old, draw from these soils all the richness necessary for the production of a great Bordeaux wine.

The vintage

The 2024 vintage began with a mild and wet winter, followed by a cool and rainy spring and a late summer.

Vinification and aging

Aging 70% in barrels, half of which are new wood, providing structure and complexity. The remaining 30% are aged in various containers such as sandstone, concrete, and stainless steel, thus preserving the freshness and purity of the fruit. This diversity of containers contributes to the aromatic richness and final balance of the wine.

Blend

90% Merlot complemented by 10% Cabernet Franc.
