Description
The refinement and smoothness of an iconic rosé wine from the Côtes de Provence
The estate
Château d’Esclans is located in the heart of Provence, northeast of Saint-Tropez, with the Mediterranean Sea as its backdrop. The first traces of Château d'Esclans date back to the Roman Empire, when it served as a lookout post over the Gulf of Fréjus to warn against potential maritime invasions.
Château d’Esclans is an extraordinary estate in the heart of Provence. The Château is renowned for its old Grenache vines, which produce grapes with a higher concentration of aromas than younger vines.
Built in the 19th century, the current château has seen many owners. Owned by Sacha Lichine since 2006, Château d’Esclans has contributed to the rise of Côtes de Provence wines. Today, it has become a global benchmark for Provence rosés with its Whispering Angel cuvée.
The vineyard
On the Côte d’Azur, just a short distance from the ancient Roman city of Fréjus, lies the Esclans valley, home to the estate's 44-hectare vineyard. Averaging 35 years old, the vines are planted on plots with soils ranging from clay and limestone to sandy gravel. This mosaic of terroirs ensures great diversity of character in the château’s wines.
The wine
Produced from the eponymous plot planted with nearly century-old Grenache and Rolle, Garrus by Château d’Esclans is an essential reference among the great Côtes de Provence wines, representing excellence and luxury beyond borders.
Winemaking and aging
Night harvesting followed by manual and optical sorting. Fermentation takes place exclusively in French oak barrels of one or two previous uses, with regular bâtonnage. Aged on the lees for 11 months.
