Description
The finesse and intensity of a great Saint-Émilion wine
The estate
Nestled on the southern slope of the medieval city of Saint-Émilion, Château Ausone boasts a rich and complex history dating back to Roman times. Its very name evokes the Roman poet Ausonius, who, according to legend, is said to have owned a villa on these lands. Over the centuries, this iconic estate has become a true standard-bearer xxxx Bordeaux winemaking, combining tradition, elegance, and unrivaled expertise.
The vineyard
Spanning 7 hectares, the Château Ausone vineyard is situated on a hillside, benefiting from an ideal exposure and a unique terroir. The soils, composed of a blend of clay over asteriated limestone, give these great Saint-Émilion wines the minerality and finesse for which the estate is renowned. The exceptional geographical location and the estate's small size allow for meticulous attention to every vine, ensuring consistent quality vintage after vintage. This 2007 vintage was crafted from vines averaging 50 years of age.
Winemaking and aging
Fermentation takes place in oak vats, as does the 4- to 5-week maceration. Aging lasts 20 months in new barrels.
Blend
This Château Ausone 2007 is the result of a blend of Cabernet Franc (55%) and Merlot (45%).
