Description
Characteristics and tasting advice for Blason d'Issan 2024 from Château d'Issan
Tasting
2024 expresses the identity of this great Médoc terroir through a subtle alliance between vivacity, aromatic richness and balance.
A second Margaux wine combining freshness and fruity charm
The property
Founded in the 12th century, the Château d'Issan is an emblematic wine estate of the Margaux appellation, in the Bordeaux region. This historic vineyard, surrounded by rare moats in the Médoc, has been classified as a Third Growth since 1855. Since 2013, it has been managed by Emmanuel Cruse and Jacky Lorenzetti, who have modernized its practices while preserving its rich heritage. The estate stands out for its balance between tradition and innovation, with a typical blend of cabernet sauvignon and merlot, and a wall dating from 1644.
The vineyard
Blason d'Issan comes from younger vines of the estate, located on the terroirs of Margaux. These plots rest on gravel and sand soils, particularly conducive to the expression of Bordeaux grape varieties. This geological composition gives the wine its characteristic structure and distinctive aromatic profile.
The vintage
The 2024 vintage began with a January with temperatures dropping to -4°C, relatively mild for the season. February and March saw abundant rainfall without negative temperatures. Bud break began on March 27, followed by flowering observed on May 29. Mid-veraison occurred on August 12, announcing a gradual ripening of the grapes until the harvest, which took place from September 26 to October 8.
Vinification and aging
Aging in barrels, 35% of which are new.
Blend
Cabernet sauvignon (52%), merlot (46%) and petit verdot (2%).
