A balanced Australian wine with black fruit aromas

    The Producer
Established in 1844 by Christopher Rawson Penfold and his wife Mary, the Penfolds estate has become a leading wine producer in Australia, with a great international reputation for its powerful red wines. The estate today produces a range of multi-vineyard and multi-region blends, as well as single-varietal wines aged in American or French oak.

    The Vineyard
The Penfolds Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz has been produced since 1959. The vineyard from which it comes is located in the Barossa Valley region of South Australia, close to the city of Adelaide.

    The Vintage
The 2017 vintage was characterized by a mild and humid winter, providing the soil with good water conditions. The climate during the rest of the year allowed the grapes to fully ripen in time for the harvest.

    Vinification and Aging
Following the harvest in mid-March and once the fermentation is complete, the Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz 2017 is aged 12 months in American oak barrels.

    The Blend
The Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz is a single-varietal wine exclusively made with Shiraz.

    At the Tasting
    In the glass:
The Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz 2017 by Penfolds displays in the glass a color, ranging from crimson to garnet.

On the nose: The bouquet is quite expressive, marked by aromas of goji berries and wild raspberry, evolving empyreumatic notes of tobacco leaf and mocha.

On the palate: A balanced wine, the Penfolds Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz 2017 coats the palate with flavors of black fruit, as well as tobacco and tamarind nuances.

    Parker : 91 / 100
    Wine Advocate-Parker :
A blend of fruit from Barossa, McLaren Vale and Padthaway, the 2017 Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz is meant to replicate the Northern Barossa style of its namesake vineyard, with opulent dark fruit, savory spice notes of pepper and licorice and a full-bodied, plush mouthfeel. It's a delicious Shiraz for drinking over the next decade or so.
