Decanter

Bright on the nose, the palate is dark and quite serious. No massive acidity nor brightness, but there is a lovely refinement to the fruit – it feels sculpted and poised, if not showy and bright. A linear style with a push from start to finish, then a strong menthol character pushing things on the tail.

James Suckling

A rich red with plum and berry aromas and flavors, with some walnuts. Medium body and creamy tannins. Hints of berries and leaves, as well as dark chocolate. Solid character. From organically grown grapes. Same owner as La Lagune. Drink after 2024.

Falstaff

Falstaff

Dark ruby red, purple hues, some brightening on the rim. A leafy-vegetal bouquet, red berry fruit, citrus zest, tobacco nuances. Slender, some nougat, slightly bitter, a salty, astringent finish.

Jane Anson

Jane Anson

Sweet cedar and smoked black cherry fruits, with plenty of dark spices. This is enjoyable with upfront fruit, well-worked tannins and a sense of lift.

Vertdevin

The nose is fruity and offers a certain juiciness, power, and purity of fruit. It reveals notes of pulpy/bright blackcurrant, bright cherry and, more subtly, wild strawberry, combined with touches of nutmeg and pepper, hints of spices, and a subtle hint of fresh tobacco. The palate is fruity, balanced, and offers freshness, minerality, a mineral backbone, and a fine smoothness. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of juicy/tangy blackberry, juicy/tangy Bigarreau cherry and, more lightly, redcurrant, combined with touches of lily and cornflower, hints of nutmeg, as well as discreet toasted and mocha notes. The tannins are flavorful and refined. Good length.

Jean-Marc Quarin

Deeply colored wine with a fruity, moderately intense nose; a pleasant palate, flavorful with a sappy finish. Medium body and length.

Description

A fresh and complex Second Wine from Haut-Médoc

The estate

Beautifully situated on the left bank of Bordeaux, Château La Lagune stands out among the finest references of the Haut-Médoc appellation. Since 2004, Caroline Frey has been putting her talent to work to bring Château La Lagune to the summit.

The vineyard

A benchmark among the wines of the left bank of Bordeaux, Château La Lagune oversees an 80-hectare vineyard planted on a gravelly rise. The vines, on average 20 years old, are cultivated following organic and biodynamic farming practices.

The wine

The estate's second wine, Moulin de La Lagune displays the style of a great Haut-Médoc wine.

The vintage

Conditions at the start of the growing cycle were seasonal and relatively dry. Following budbreak recorded at the end of March, vegetative growth was slow and steady. Radiant weather persisted from early July to mid-August. At harvest time, the vineyard's health was perfect and the grapes of excellent quality.

Winemaking and aging

Hand-harvested with sorting in the vineyard, completed by manual and optical sorting at the winery. Vinification with 100% destemming, three-week maceration with gentle extractions. Malolactic fermentation. Aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, 40% of which were new.

Blend

Merlot (60%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (33%)
Petit Verdot (7%)
