Description

A delicate and aromatic red wine from Haut-Medoc, revealed by Chateau La Lagune

The estate

With a magnificent location on the left bank of BordeauxChateau La Lagune stands out among the finest references of the Haut-Medoc appellation. Since 2004, Caroline Frey has invested her skill and dedication to elevating Chateau La Lagune to the height of its appellation.

The vineyard

Situated on a gravelly ridge, the Chateau La Lagune vineyard covers 80 hectares. The vines are managed according to organic and biodynamic farming practices. The grape varieties comprise Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot.

The vintage

Winter was marked by higher than average seasonal temperatures as well as very low rainfall, thus encouraging a vine development that was 3 weeks in advance. The cold spell at the end of March did not affect the vineyard. The application of prepared cow horn manure (500P) promoted microbial activity, humus formation as well as water absorption and retention within the soil. Although the heavy rainfall in early May increased mildew pressure, tisane-based care (Bourdaine bark, wicker) made it possible to keep the plants in good health. Flowering began, in good conditions, from 15 May. Summer conditions were hot and dry. The application of yarrow and chamomile protected the vineyard from water stress. Stormy episodes around mid-August were salvaging, bringing humidity and freshness. Ripening was gradual and homogeneous up to harvest.

The tasting

The 2020 Chateau La Lagune seduces with its colour, aromatic richness and tannins, which harmoniously blend complexity and finesse. This vintage is marked by a delicate freshness and a perfect balance.
