The Second Wine of the prestigious Premier Grand Cru Classe of Pauillac - Chateau Mouton RothschildLe Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild comes from a selection of vines located on the great terroir of Pauillac.

A challenging vintage for the Bordeaux region because of significant climatic contrasts, 2018 has nevertheless turned out to be one of the exceptional vintages at Chateau Mouton Rothschild. 2018 took place in two stages. The heavy rain of winter and mild, wet spring were followed by a magnificent summer with record sunshine. The hot weather and drought helped control the attacks of mildew. For this 2018 vintage, Chateau Mouton Rothschild began harvesting the reds on September 10 and ended on October 3. The berries harvested showed exceptional quality, endowed with a richness in sugars and tannins.

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (56%), Merlot (40%) and Cabernet Franc (4%), the Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild 2018 expresses all the richness and complexity of a great Pauillac wine.

At the tasting, the Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild 2018 reveals a dark purple-purple color at its core, as well as shades of carmine on the edges. Intensely expressive, the aromatic bouquet opens with notes of ripe red and black fruits. Swirling the glass reveals fresh notes of white pepper and licorice. From the onset, the palate blossoms with a juicy mouthfeel and great richness. The tannic structure of the palate seduces with its texture, while the mid-palate evolves, presenting deliciously crunchy fruit, punctuated by touches of vanilla. The finish is persistent and very generous. A great Pauillac wine from Chateau Mouton Rothschild.

The 2018 Le Petit Mouton is blended of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc, harvested September 10 to October 3. It represents about 26% of the total crop and has 14% alcohol--the alcohol has never been this high! Deep garnet-purple, it comes bounding out of the glass with sit-up-and-beg notes of crème de cassis, plum preserves and mulberries plus nuances of chocolate box, Chinese five spice, licorice and candied violets. Full-bodied, rich and oh-so-hedonic, the palate is packed with juicy black fruit layers wrapped in a firm, velvety structure, with loads of fragrant spice layers on the very long finish.
