La Sirene de Giscours 2023

Lovely floral elements on the nose. Raspberries, red cherries and some plum notes with touches of rose. Smooth and supple, a good energy and movement. Nice brightness with stoniness, graphite and liquorice. Juicy, high acidity with crunchy and crisp fruit. I love the balance of acidity and tannins, really smooth with a hint of grip. Well worked, not massively complex but really well made with such charm and easy-drinking appeal. Great precision too. Clearly finessed. 3.76 pH. No Cabernet Franc in the blend this year. 26% second wine.

The 2023 La Sirène de Giscours has fine precision on the nose, with pure blackberry and blueberry fruit, touches of crushed iris flower and iodine. The palate is medium-bodied with sapid black fruit. Fine backbone for a Deuxième Vin, gentle grip, focused with a nicely robust yet still Margaux-like finish. Give this a couple of years in bottle.

Medium-bodied, fresh, vibrant, and fruity with a floral edge, the wine is soft, elegant, refined and ready-to-go with plenty of early drinking pleasure. This is perfect for enjoyment on release while waiting for the Grand Vin to develop. Drink from 2026-2035.

Deep dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, subtle edge brightening. Ripe black cherry, fresh plum, inviting bouquet. Taut, red berry nuances, ripe tannins, mineral, salty aftertaste, lemon touch, a lively food companion.

The bouquet of Sirène de Giscours is gradually revealing itself. It is still going through a reductive phase, yet it already shows notes of black berries and sweet spices. Compact and slightly creamy on the attack, the wine is elegant and linear, driven by vigorous tannins and a refreshing structure. It is finding its way, opening up prospects of finesse while sketching out greatness and, above all, sheer delight!

The nose is beautifully fresh, mineral and elegant, offering lovely precision/concentration and a charming floral edge. It reveals notes of pulpy/juicy blueberry, pulpy raspberry and, more subtly, bright small fruits, together with touches of violet and spices, fine hints of cornflower, a hint of Madagascar pepper, very discreet hints of sweet tobacco and a subtle/airy hint of sweet spices. The palate is beautifully mineral, supple, airy and balanced, with lovely energy, a spherical feel, a tangy backbone, precision and juiciness. Nicely sapid. On the palate, the wine expresses notes of crunchy Boysen blackberry, lilac, fresh/juicy small red berries and, more subtly, violet, combined with touches of crunchy cherry and fresh spices, as well as a discreet hint of dry gravel, a subtle hint of salinity and an imperceptible hint of almost a sense of place (local biotope). The tannins are velvety, sapid and gourmand. A lovely, light chew on the finish/persistence.

Bold and ripe, this is the second wine of classed growth Château Giscours. It is balanced with juicy black currant flavors and a blackberry aroma, with tannins to match. The wine will be ready from 2028.
