The estate

Created in 1983, the Donnafugata estate – meaning "woman on the run" – takes its name from a landmark historical episode: the exile of Queen Marie-Caroline of Naples to the lands of a local prince, after the capture of Naples by Napoleon. Founded by Giacomo Rallo, heir to a winemaking lineage active since 1851, Donnafugata is located in the northwest of Sicily. Spread across five distinct sites, the estate stands out for the diversity of its terroirs, each imparting a unique personality to its cuvées and expressing the full richness of Sicilian identity.

The vineyard

The cuvée Isolano Dolce&Gabbana Limited Edition 2022 comes from vines situated on Etna's northern slope, between Randazzo and Castiglione di Sicilia, at an altitude between 700 and 750 meters. This terroir in Sicily benefits from a drier climate than the other slopes of the volcano, with mild summers and wide diurnal temperature variations. The volcanic, sandy and mineral-rich soils favor a fine and mineral expression of the wine. The vines, grown as goblets according to the traditional 'alberello' method, stretch across terraces supported by lava-stone walls.

This cuvée embodies the encounter of two icons of Sicilian heritage: the Donnafugata estate and the house Dolce&Gabbana, united by their love of their land and commitment to Italian excellence. The label and the box, designed by Dolce&Gabbana, celebrate the traditional colors and motifs of Sicily, inspired by the island's emblematic decorated carts. The vibrant hues – red, blue, green, yellow – evoke the energy of the territory, while active Etna looms in the background.
