A Puligny-Montrachet from Burgundy with a precise and mineral character

The estate
The Domaine des Lambrays was founded in 1868 by Albert-Sébastien Rodier in Morey-Saint-Denis, in the heart of Burgundy's Côte de Nuits. Owned by the LVMH group since 2014 and managed by Jacques Devauges, this 8.70-hectare estate represents the largest solely owned Clos in Burgundy. Its history dates back to 1365 and the annual production amounts to 3,000 to 4,000 cases.

The vineyard
The Clos du Cailleret forms a walled plot of 0.3660 hectares within the Le Cailleret Climat in Puligny-Montrachet, which extends over a total of 3.3301 hectares. The Chardonnay vines were planted in 1962, giving this plot the status of very old vines. The very chalky terroir of this Premier Cru gives the wine its characteristic minerality.

The vintage
Budburst occurred on April 1, 2023, in Puligny-Montrachet, three days earlier than the usual average. Flowering took place under very favorable conditions, followed by a rainy period that favored fruit set. The hot summer in July and August, punctuated by regular rainfall, allowed for good berry development and optimal ripeness. At the end of July, a significant green harvest was carried out, vine by vine, to remove excess grapes. The harvest took place on September 4, 2023, in bright sunshine, with a yield of 47 hectoliters per hectare.

Winemaking and ageing
The Puligny-Montrachet 1er cru "Clos du Cailleret" 2023 benefits from whole-cluster pressing lasting about three hours. After settling for 12 to 24 hours, the cloudy juices are placed in barrels for fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Ageing takes place entirely in oak barrels for 16 months, with no new oak. The wine rests on its lees throughout this period, without racking.
