Decanter

Cherry and damson fruits come straight in on the attack with plenty of cedar and mocha smoke, a little brittle through the finish but with charm.

Leve Jeff

Medium-bodied, forward, round, lush, polished, fruity, sweet and almost ready to drink, with its ripe dark red berry, espresso, licorice and coffee-centric profile. 86-88 pts

Falstaff

Falstaff

Dark ruby, purple reflections, a slight brightening at the rim. Hints of ripe plums, nuances of cherries, subtle orange zest. Medium-bodied, red cherries, vivid, somewhat brittle tannins, lemony, with leafy nuances on the finish, uncomplicated.

Pure nose blending red and dark fruit with some herbal bay leaf and sage notes with mild oak; succulent and forward palate with fine-grained tannins, elegant and fresh, with nice persistence and drinkability.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown

The 2020 Chevalier de Lascombes has a deep garnet-purple color. It strides confidently out of the glass with classic cassis, cedar, and pencil lead notes, plus suggestions of smoked meats and tapenade. The medium-bodied palate delivers lively acidity and chewy tannins to support the delicate black fruits, finishing savory.

Le Figaro Vin

A fresh, enthusiastic nose, eager to please. Supple, sumptuous, caressing on the palate, with all the drinkability you want from a second wine of this approachable appellation. Lovely length and presence.

Yves Beck

Le Chevalier de Lascombes has a striking family resemblance to the grand vin, especially through its charm, which is already noticeable on the nose. The same applies on the palate, where the wine is slender, elegant, harmonious, and ready to drink! A delectable wine to enjoy with complete peace of mind.

Description

The structure and delicacy of a Second Wine from Margaux

The estate

Bearing the surname of Chevalier Antoine de Lascombes since the 17th century, the Château Lascombes is marked by the imprint of the ten generations of owners who have shaped its history. Since 2011, the mutualist group MACSF has been the owner. The wines of Château Lascombes are recognized as being among the greatest of the Margaux appellation.

Chevalier de Lascombes is the Second Wine of the estate.

The vineyard

120 hectares in the Margaux appellation make up the vineyard of this Second Grand Cru Classé in 1855. This vineyard is located on a mosaic of plots whose soils are composed, depending on their location, of a gravelly mound, clayey gravels and clay-limestone plots.

Vinification and aging

Harvested by hand, the grapes are sorted and then destemmed. A light crushing is carried out during vatting. The pre-fermentation maceration lasts 10 days at 8°C. Alcoholic fermentation is followed by traditional vinification with light daily pump-overs to promote extraction. Following malolactic fermentation in barrels, aging on lees lasts 4 months (100% barrels of one wine).

Blend

The Chevalier de Lascombes 2020 is made from a Blend of merlot (50%) and cabernet sauvignon (50%).
