Chateau Nenin 2015

Lush and ripe, set apart in this vintage by good, juicy energy that allows the plum sauce, raspberry pâte de fruit and cherry compote flavours to be vibrant and engaging, backed by red liquorice and singed vanilla details on the straight-backed finish. Best from 2022 through 2035. 2,667 cases made.

Rich plum aromas with smoky, minty notes, hints of umami, blackcurrant leaf and clove. The palate is soft and juicy, mid-weight with fresh acidity balancing the ripe black fruit. Smooth, finely sanded tannins lead to a fresh, lingering finish.

Classic Pomerol character of black olives, wet earth, violets and dark fruit. Full-bodied, tight and silky-textured with fabulous texture. Stones and dark berries. So serious and real. The depth is like looking down a well. Give it three to four years to integrated but already beautiful. Try in 2023 and onwards.

Tasted blind. Dark crimson. Rich and dense with a bit of alcohol. Pretty hot! But makes an impression – that’s for sure. Rather dry on the end. (JR)

The 2015 Nénin was one of the most pleasant surprises of my tastings of bottled 2015s, as the wine has really come together nicely since I tasted it from barrel. Deep, pliant and wonderfully fleshy, the 2015 has so much to offer. Above all else, it is flat out delicious. Soft contours add to the wine's considerable near and medium-term appeal.

Cocoa, flowers, plum and cherry notes on the nose, with fresh kirsch and cherry griotte on the palate. The finish gives you even more cherries, crisp cassis and a basket of strawberries. This wine was produced from 67% Merlot and 33% Cabernet Franc and reached 14.3% ABV with a pH of 3.72. The Grand Vin is 70% of the production. This is certainly a contender for the best vintage of Nenin ever produced. The owner, Jean-Hubert Delon has definitely committed to making better wine, and it shows! 91-93 Pts

Deep dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, delicate bright rim. Delicate blossom aromas, discreet red-berry fruit, subtle hints of liquorice, mineral, hints of orange. Elegant, pronounced fruit texture, fine silky tannins that are well integrated, salty minerality, cherry on the finish, subtle nougat, good persistence, it certainly has promising ageing potential.

Notes of ripe plums, black cherries, freshly laid asphalt and scorched earth dominate the bouquet of the 2015 Château Nenin. Made from 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc, it offers a beautifully ripe, medium- to full-bodied personality, bright acidity and sweet tannins, and is going to evolve gracefully for 15–20 years. I was blown away by this wine when I tasted it from barrel, and it certainly didn’t disappoint from bottle.

A Pomerol with reticence and pared-back flesh and firm tannins, and it's a style that delivers in the heat of 2015, giving balance and texture to the ripe fruits, over-layered with black truffle and smoked earth. Good stuff, enjoyable. 40% new oak for ageing.

A blend of 67% Merlot and 33% Cabernet Franc, the 2015 Nenin is medium garnet in colour. It leaps from the glass with open-knit scents of raspberry preserves, boysenberries and juicy plums, plus suggestions of wood smoke, beef drippings and black truffles. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers a lively backbone to the generous, savoury-laced black fruits, with a firm, chewy texture and a long, earthy finish.

It has sharpened its definition in bottle and strengthened its character. While developing a gently spicy aromatic profile, Nénin asserts itself as one of the vintage’s great Pomerols—among the most responsive and classically structured, without the slightest rigidity.

Beautiful spicy nose with a touch of oak. The wine is supple and spicy, with a lovely aromatic palette and plenty of fruit. Only one third of the Grand Vin was produced. The blend is 67% Merlot and 33% Cabernet (including 0.5% Cabernet Sauvignon), and it was aged in 35% new oak.

Medium garnet red. Complex bouquet of good intensity, revealing notes of blackcurrant, red berries and mint. Juicy and broad on entry. Nénin 2015 has breadth and pedigree, with fine-grained tannins that appear on the finish. What power and what finesse. A wine that wonderfully combines the acid structure, the gourmand character and the tannins. These are powerful and precise. A wine that needs time.

The nose is fruity and offers a fine sense of deliciousness as well as concentration. It reveals notes of crushed blueberry and blackcurrant, with fine hints of blackberry, crushed Gariguette strawberry and subtle touches of ripe redcurrant, discreet hints of oak, cardamom and an imperceptible hint of mocha. The palate is fruity, balanced and silky, with a lovely mineral backbone, fine juiciness, fine acidity, a delicate suavity, a lovely texture and a fine sense of deliciousness. On the palate, the wine expresses notes of juicy blackberry and juicy raspberry, together with fine touches of blackcurrant and blue fruits, as well as hints of zan, tobacco, cardamom, oak/spice and a subtle hint of mocha. The tannins are fine and very slightly grainy. Good length and lovely persistence. A fine hint of bitter dark chocolate on the finish.

Very dense, this wine holds a high amount (33%) of Cabernet Franc, which gives a beautiful perfumed character as well as restraining the exuberance of the Merlot. It is full of tannins that will allow the wine to age well. Drink from 2025.
