The Perfect Harmony of a Saint-Estephe
A 2nd Classified Growth of Saint-Estephe, Chateau Montrose is today one of the most beautiful references of the Left Bank, undeniably among the great must-haves of Bordeaux.
Led by Martin and Olivier Bouygues since 2006, the estate has reached new heights of quality. An exceptional Medoc terroir, a complete renovation of the cellar, a spectacular modern facility, precise parcel management and perfectly mastered vinification, therein lies the secret to Montrose, whose wines stand out vintage after vintage.
The 2017 is in line with the Chateau's top vintages. True to the saying that “great terroirs look toward water", the ideal location of the vineyard allows for organic farming and, as it is located in the immediate vicinity of the estuary, the vineyard was protected from episodes of frost at the end of April. This ensured a perfect ripeness of the grapes before harvest. The great precision of the hundred or so grape pickers has been recognized, along with winemaking that highlights the technical expertise of the teams, orchestrated by Manager Hervé Berland and winemaker Vincent Decup.
First Wine of the property, the Chateau Montrose 2017 was created to express 110 plots vinified in 82 different vats.
With its blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (76%), complemented by Merlot (20%) and Cabernet Franc (3%), the Chateau Montrose 2017 shines with distinction and elegance.
Precise and very expressive, the aromatic bouquet is marked by the imprint of Cabernet Sauvignon. Pure aromas of blackcurrant and black berries are revealed when the wine is swirled, and the personality of the vintage is fully expressed through a certain complexity brought to the wine by fresh cedar notes and delicate floral fragrances. The palate offers a tactile mouthfeel, a dense texture revealing perfectly polished tannins, while the mid-palate retains the elegance and brilliance of the fruit. The minerality of the finish brings a nice freshness at the end. A truly beautiful Chateau Montrose.
