Description
A Saint-Estèphe red wine with wonderful vivacity and elegance
The estate
Owned by the Bouygues brothers Martin and Olivier since 2006, Château Montrose is an emblematic estate in the Saint-Estèphe appellation. This Second Cru Classé in 1855 oversees one of the finest terroirs in the Médoc. In the past and today, Château Montrose has distinguished itself for the quality of its wines and its style, making it an essential, world-renowned estate.
The vineyard
Château Montrose is a Saint-Estèphe wine from a 95-hectare vineyard on an exceptional site considered to be one of the greatest terroirs in the Bordeaux region. This vast, single-hectare vineyard is a rarity on a terroir considered to be an "elite nucleus." Located not far from the Gironde estuary, the Château Montrose vineyard is planted on terraces of gravel mixed with sand on the surface, while the subsoil is clay.
The vintage
A mild winter with little rain preceded a dry spring. The vines broke bud on 4 April and flowered on 18 May. Despite an episode of hail at the end of June, the summer saw above-normal temperatures, leading to veraison on 30 July. The 2022 vintage produced grapes that were both rich and concentrated.
Blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (66%)
Merlot (25%)
Cabernet Franc (8%)
Petit Verdot (1%)

Fresh and lively on the palate, with a smooth character and fine salinity. It reveals tannins that are both soft and powerful, followed by a lingering finish.
