2014 Sain-Estephe, Second wine of Chateau Calon Ségur from Bordeaux
The skilfully produced 2014 Saint-Estephe Marquis de Calon of Chateau Calon Ségur is 64% Merlot and 36% Cabernet Sauvignon. This inky intense red coloured wine gives off delicious black fruit fragrances with freshly picked fruit expressions. The attack is soft and sweet on generous, creamy and fine tannins. The careful selection of the grapes brings this Second wine of Chateau Calon Ségur some characteristics of a Grand wine. The work of Laurent Dufau's team and the new direction given to the company are tangible in this vintage, specific to the Saint-Estephe terroir.
Wine Advocate-Parker :
The 2014 Marquis de Calon has quite an opulent bouquet for a second wine. The palate is medium-bodied with a touch of greenness on the entry, gritty in the mouth with some hardness on the finish. It is a wine that I feel has gone into its shell, but I am sure will return within two or three years to demonstrate the exuberance and hubris out of barrel.
