The estate

Calon was the name given to the boat that was used in the Middle Ages to transport wood from one bank of the Garonne to the other. And at the beginning of the 18th century, the Marquis de Ségur, who was given this estate as a wedding gift, added his surname and thus marked the birth of this Saint-Estephe classified Third Growth.

Chateau Calon-Segur remained owned by the Capbern-Gasqueton family throughout the 19th century, until 2012, when the estate was acquired by Suravenir Assurances. The current owners continue to produce Saint-Estephe wines that boast an inimitable style marked by the appellation’s seal.

Moreover, Chateau Calon Segur became famous for the label that adorns its bottles. Since the 18th century, the heart has been the estate's symbol and pays tribute to the words of Marquis de Segur himself: "I make wine in Lafite and Latour but my heart is in Calon". For nearly three centuries, lovers of Chateau Calon Segur’s wines have remained true to this appellation’s illustrious estate.

The vineyard

Chateau Calon Segur’s vineyard spreads across 50 hectares of vines of which 48 hectares are used for the production of wine. The vines are 20 years old on average and are planted on a thick layer of Garonne gravel, that dates back to the fourth century, along with a thin layer of clay with lacustrine sediments on the surface.

The wine

To mark the completion of the first book that retraces the estate’s history, Chateau Calon Segur is unveiling a refined and innovative box set: Chateau Calon Segur ‘’The Book’’.

Comprised within a unique and elegant case, this limited edition box set includes the book that contains several centuries’ worth of history along with 5 vintages (1989, 1995, 2003, 2010, 2016) that mark five key chapters in the rich legacy of this illustrious Saint-Estephe estate.

Expressed through the complexity and finesse of these five bottles and through the prose that emphasizes the heritage-filled history, Chateau Calon Segur’s The Book invites you on a sensory and temporal journey around one of the most iconic names on the Left Bank of Bordeaux.
