Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for Château Les Carmes-Haut-Brion 2023

Freshness, elegance and complexity are the key words for this 2023 vintage, combining floral aromas (iris, violet, elderflower) with a beautiful minerality.

A lively and expressive red wine from Pessac-Léognan

The estate

The Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion, a large estate in Pessac-Léognan is located on the left bank of Bordeaux. Founded in the 16th century, this vineyard now delivers an expression of its terroir that is the work of a visionary owner and craftsmen with the air of goldsmiths. Acquired in 2010 by the Pichet real estate group, Château Les Carmes-Haut-Brion is now one of the most distinguished crus of the Pessac-Léognan appellation.

The vineyard

Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion is a Pessac-Léognan wine from a 30.75 hectare vineyard, of which 7.60 hectares are dedicated to the Grand Vin. The nearly 40-year-old vines are planted on Mindel gravel on a clay-limestone base.

Vinification and ageing

The grapes are hand-picked and subjected to rigorous successive sorting in the vineyard and in the cellar. Vinification in whole bunches (60%). Ageing in new barrels (70%), new 18hl vats (20%) and amphora (10%).

Blend

Cabernet Franc (50%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (30%)
Merlot (20%).
