Description
A great Pessac-Léognan wine in a collector’s bottle
The estate
Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion, a major Pessac-Léognan estate, is located on Bordeaux’s Left Bank. Founded in the 16th century, this vineyard today delivers a terroir expression shaped by a visionary owner and artisans with goldsmith-like finesse. Acquired in 2010 by the Pichet real estate group, Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion is now one of the most distinguished crus of the Pessac-Léognan appellation.
The vineyard
Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion is a Pessac-Léognan wine from a 30.75-hectare vineyard, of which 7.60 hectares are dedicated to the Grand Vin. The nearly 40-year-old vines are planted on Mindel gravels over a clay-limestone base.
A collector’s case
Combining the excellence of tradition with just the right touch of modernity is a challenge that Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion meets masterfully.
In an original case, this magnificent estate in the Pessac-Léognan appellation within the Graves revives an emblematic Bordeaux bottle whose format had been forgotten since the 1950s: the Marie-Jeanne.
With a capacity of 2.25L, the low, flared shape of the Marie-Jeanne was abandoned in favor of more elongated bottles to facilitate transport. With its unique silhouette and flared curves, the Marie-Jeanne nonetheless enables better preservation by enhancing the wine’s aging capacity.
A true collector’s item, the idea of creating a unique and singular bottle was born from the talent of Guillaume Pouthier, Director of Les Carmes Haut-Brion. He wished to pay tribute to the heritage and history of Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion while showcasing the wave of modernity the estate has experienced, becoming one of the most beautiful references of the Pessac-Léognan appellation.
An extraordinary bottle was specially created for the occasion, fully custom-made and presented in a transparent glass case designed to optimize the bottle’s preservation.
The result of an exceptional vintage for the Bordeaux region, the Marie-Jeanne of Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion 2016 carries the promise of a brilliant future. Berries harvested at perfect ripeness offer great anthocyanin richness with vibrant aromatic freshness. The cru displays a perfect balance between the suppleness of the fruit, lively acidity, and powerful tannins. The richness and complementarity of each grape variety in the blend (41% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Franc, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon) express themselves in perfect harmony.
A symbol of a lost but never forgotten tradition, a model of excellence celebrating the beauty of the great wines of Bordeaux, the Marie-Jeanne Les Carmes Haut-Brion 2016 marks the birth of a great, rare, and exceptional bottle. A Pessac-Léognan crafted with goldsmith-like precision, endowed with exceptional aging potential that will delight collectors.
