Description

Léoville-Barton 2016, a straightforward and aromatic Saint-Julien

In 2016, Château Léoville-Barton, an 1855 classified wine from the appellation Saint-Julien, harvested its Cabernets Sauvignon and its Merlots between the 29th of September and 13th of October. The blend incorporates 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Merlot. Very straightforward this year with a beautiful structure - a character linked to the high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, truly splendid in 2016 - Léoville-Barton gains in shoulder width without denying its classic style and Saint-Julien style finish, a style also characteristic of this property.

Léoville-Barton 2016 has a dark and purplish color. The nose is fine and dense at the same time, with an aromatic character that is a bit mute. Stirring awakens the wine, which provides nice fruity aromas of raspberry, crushed blackberry, and a balsamic (cedar) character. The entry in mouth is precise with good acid support. The mid-palate is aromatic, of great drinkability and freshness, rather tense and juicy on tannins of great maturity and fine grain. The finish is elegant and long on the fruit. What density and class!
