Description

The richness and balance of a Pomerol red wine

The estate

Château Le Gay is located in the Pomerol appellation. Once owned by the Robin sisters, renowned and respected in Pomerol for their expertise and their father's famous motto "Quality over quantity," Château Le Gay is now one of the finest wine estates on Bordeaux's Right Bank.

The vineyard

Château Le Gay 2022 comes from a 12-hectare vineyard, 10.5 hectares of which are in production. Planted on exceptional clay-gravel soils, the vines are on average 25 years old and produce great Pomerol wines.

The vintage

A cold winter with high rainfall preceded a spring with relatively high temperatures, advancing a very early budburst from 30 March. The frosts that hit between 1 and 10 April had little impact on the vineyards, thanks to the fact that many buds were still protected. Flowering was rapid. The summer was hot and particularly dry, with thunderstorms accelerating the ripening of the grapes. Despite low yields, the grapes harvested were of excellent quality.

Winemaking and ageing

The grapes, harvested by hand in small crates, are sorted both by bunch and by grape. Micro-vinification is carried out exclusively in new barrels. Pre-fermentation maceration at 6°C for 12 days. Long post-fermentation maceration. Malolactic fermentation in barrels. Aged in new barrels.

Blend

Château Le Gay 2022 is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
