Driven by the enthusiasm and passion of the late Catherine Pere-Verge, Chateau Le Gay has become one of the most beautiful estates in the prestigious Pomerol appellation on the right bank of the Bordeaux region.
Catherine Pere-Verge’s son, Henri Parent, runs the estate now. Chateau Le Gay is a benchmark consisting of wines that are distinguished by their generous, fleshy fruit.
Chateau Le Gay 2017 is a testament to the skills of its technical team that follow the precision and rigor Catherine Pere-Verge established at the estate. From the vineyard to the winery, nothing has been left to chance and every step during the elaboration of the wines receives constant attention.
Merlot (90%) dominates the blend and is complemented with Cabernet Franc (10%). Chateau Le Gay 2017 is among the most beautiful expressions of this vintage that has come to be called a “winemaker’s” vintage.
The intensity and freshness of the fruit carry through to the mid-palate with finesse, which then reveal perfectly balanced and structured tannins. Chateau Le Gay 2017 reveals the greatness of the Pomerol terroir by perfectly capturing the expression of each parcel that is blended into the wine. A Pomerol of perfect craftsmanship.
Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Le Gay offers a very serious, classic notes of plum preserves, mulberries and baked black cherries with hints of tilled soil, cloves, cedar chest and tobacco. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has firm, grippy tannins and plenty of muscular fruit, finishing on a stewed tea note.
