Description
Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Laville Haut-Brion 2005
Tasting
Color
With a brilliant yellow hue with green reflections, the color of this wine evokes freshness and vivacity.
Nose
Intense and expressive, the nose reveals an aromatic explosion mixing citrus, with a dominance of grapefruit, and exotic fruits like mango. Varietal touches of boxwood and a gourmet nuance of honey enrich this bouquet.
Palate
The attack seduces with its sweetness and enveloping texture. The remarkable freshness and minerality bring a beautiful balance, extending the tasting towards a finish of great persistence.
A great sweet and lively white wine from Pessac-Léognan
The property
Originally bearing the name of one of its first owners, Clos Laville was acquired in 1928 by Frederic Woltner, owner of La Mission Haut-Brion, neighbor of the illustrious Château Haut-Brion. Then covering an area of 2.5 hectares, the clos mainly produced white wine.
The vineyard
Château Laville Haut-Brion oversees a vineyard composed of sauvignon blanc and sémillon.
The wine
Following this acquisition, this great Pessac-Léognan white wine has had several denominations. Labeled as Château La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc since 1928, its denomination evolved from 1934 into Château Laville Haut-Brion.
The vintage
The 2005 vintage stands out for its exceptional drought, with a marked water deficit from winter and rare rains until the harvest. The high temperatures throughout the year recall those of the legendary 1949. These conditions favored small berries, of unprecedented concentration and in perfect health. The harvest, early, began on August 24 for the whites and August 31 for the reds.
