Chateau Labegorce 2020

A dark, brooding style, with warmed plum and black currant preserves laced with smoldering tobacco and black tea. Reveals a humus accent that runs along the edges of the finish, leaving a rustic edge. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2025 through 2035.

Beautiful, perfumed blackcurrants on the nose, it smells lovely. Juicy and supple, this has a nice roundness and a fleshy texture in the glass while still being quite focused and streamlined. There’s a sleekness to the tannins, the fruit runs in a straight line from start to finish, so it’s not especially expansive or particularly deep, but it does have a nice style. Good acidity, concentration and freshness. Focused, driven, clean with precision. Classic, easy to drink and to recommend.

The 2020 Labegorce, matured in 40% new oak, has a fragrant, floral bouquet with wilted rose petals infusing the lively red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit. There is something airy about the aromatics here. The palate is slightly honeyed in texture, with saturated tannins, a mix of red and black fruit commingling with white pepper and iodine. Great persistence and salinity on the finish—an excellent, quite substantial Margaux for long-term ageing.

Lush, creamy, silky and already expressive, the wine is full-bodied, soft and creamy with layer after layer of black cherries, plums, currants, licorice, chocolate and a background note of espresso. Labegorce has been on fire since 2015 and I would not be surprised as the wines mature to find this to be the best vintage produced yet! Drink from 2025-2047.

A forward, textured, already delicious wine, the 2020 Château Labégorce offers lots of red and black fruit as well as notes of cedar, smoke tobacco, and chocolate. Based on 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, aged in 40% new barrels, it has perfectly integrated oak, ripe, fine-grained tannins, and outstanding overall balance. Give bottles just a year or three and enjoy over the following 10-15 years or more.

Open bouquet of ripe wild berries, licorice, perfumed pipe tobacco and sandalwood. The palate is full and rich with a soft texture, vibrant backbone, ripe tannic structure and a muscular body. The focused, finely aromatic finish shows wild cherry, graphite and walnut. A brilliant Best Buy from Margaux that’s worth seeking out. Add it to your watch list!

Clear depth to the cassis fruits, studded with fennel, anise, cut herbs, raspberry leaf and smoked earth, delivering complexity and pleasure. A brilliant wine, and a great value pick. 33% new oak. Harvest from September 16 to October 1, technical director Marjolaine de Coninck.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2020 Labegorce tumbles out of the glass with fragrant notions of kirsch, red roses, and stewed plums, leading to suggestions of damp soil and truffles. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is juicy and plush with a sense of gravitas coming through on the long, layered finish.

Refined, elegant nose with crisp fruit and roasted, spicy notes. The palate is fresh and intense, even though the oak is still prominent. You can tell the fruit will come to the fore, especially as the finish stretches out on a lovely acidity.

Undeniably, Labégorce masters the art of welcoming and seducing! The bouquet clearly shows its élevage, complemented by spicy and fruity nuances. The wine doesn’t just aim to please; it also wants to convince—and it succeeds very well, at least on the palate! A fine balance between generous, fine-grained tannins and a crisp structure. Beautiful dark red color. Moderately aromatic, fruity nose. The palate is broader than the nose would suggest. The wine develops very tasty flavors without being deep. The acidity catches up a little on the finish. Medium length.
