Tasting tips for Château La Mission Haut-Brion 2024
Tasting
Color
The wine shows a deep garnet red color, crossed with subtle violet highlights, a sign of its youth and concentration.
Nose
The nose captivates with its intensity and aromatic complexity. From the first swirl, it asserts the distinctive character of the cru with a profusion of ripe red and black fruits, enhanced by touches of licorice. The whole is both expressive and elegant.
Palate
The attack is broad and fleshy, setting the tone for a generous and perfectly balanced mouthfeel. The texture is silky, without any roughness, and the wine evolves harmoniously to a savory finish.
A delicate and beautifully aromatic Pessac-Léognan red wine
The estate
Immediately adjacent to the prestigious Château Haut-Brion, Château La Mission Haut-Brion has been an emblematic figure of the Bordeaux vineyard for several centuries. Founded in the 16th century by the de Lestonnac family, the estate was later entrusted to the Congregation of the Mission (Lazarists). Today part of the Domaine Clarence Dillon, under the impetus of Prince Robert de Luxembourg, it remains one of the unmissable references among Bordeaux’s great crus.
The vineyard
The vines of Château La Mission Haut-Brion stretch across the communes of Talence and Pessac, on deep gravel soils over a sub-soil composed of clay, sand, limestone and faluns, a shelly limestone rock. This exceptional terroir allows the production of Pessac-Léognan wines of great complexity and remarkable aging potential.
The vintage
The year 2024 was marked by a cool and wet climate, leading to early bud break followed by slowed vine growth. Disease pressure was high, requiring constant vigilance in the vineyards. Despite a late and uneven flowering, July allowed good vegetative development thanks to milder conditions. Harvesting began in early September in very good sanitary condition, with expressive white grapes and concentrated reds. The teams’ precise work made it possible to select berries of great quality, heralding a promising vintage.
Winemaking and aging
Aging is conducted in barrels, of which a majority (75%) are new oak.
Blend
Cabernet sauvignon (51%), merlot (46.5%) and cabernet franc (2.5%).
