Chateau La Lagune 2017

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 La Lagune rolls out of the glass with notes of cherry pie, Black Forest cake and warm cassis plus hints of pencil lead, new leather and spice box. Medium-bodied, the palate has great vibrancy with loads of red berries and earthy layers and a firm, chewy frame, finishing lively.

Classic balance of dark fruit with touches of oak and blue flowers. Powerful palate, spicy, rich and intense.

Elegant, fresh, forward, sweet and fruity, with a nice purity of red berries. You can enjoy it young for its refined styling, or age it to gain more floral complexity.

Deep dark ruby garnet, purple reflections, delicate edge brightening, dark nougat, a hint of herbal savouriness, some lovage, black cherries. Medium body, red cherries, integrated tannins, lemony touch, mineral and persistent, redcurrants on the finish.

2017 plays on finesse and a very fine definition of its fruit. A wine with a gentle, easy-drinking profile, yet also endowed with persistence.

Fresh, fruity, taut, elegant, great pedigree, structured, long finish.

Red fruits and spices. Beautifully fruity expression. Lively, gourmand attack. Creamy and balanced on the palate. Fruity, persistent finish.

The nose is fruity, structured, and offers subtle straightness. It reveals notes of blackcurrant, wild blackberry, and fine touches of wild strawberry/berries, lily/subtle varietal nuances, along with hints of licorice, spices, and discreet touches of tobacco. The palate is fruity, balanced, finely tight, and offers delicate juiciness, good definition, smoothness, tension, linearity, precision, minerality, finesse, a touch of roundness, beautiful fine grain, harmony, and a hint of velvety texture. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of fleshy blackcurrant and, more lightly, wild strawberry and wild raspberry, combined with fine touches of blackberry, small berries, spices, licorice, as well as subtle toasted hints, very discreet floral nuances (in the background), tonka bean (in the background), and a very discreet hint of almond (in the background). The tannins are fine, supple, and elegant. Good persistence. The finish and persistence are a little tight. (2022/2024)

Intense, lively color. Lovely, highly perfumed nose, pure and precise, with nuances that are more floral than fruity. Appetizing. The palate follows the same register with a medium body and a fine balance that lets the aromas shine, while the tannin is well wrapped. Decanting suits it well. Nevertheless, I had found it more fleshy en primeur.
