Characteristics and Tasting Advice for Château La Conseillante 2024
Tasting
This vintage charms with its fruity structure, its delicate tannins, and its lingering freshness.
A Pomerol grand cru imbued with elegance and aromatic intensity
The Estate
Created in the 18th century by Catherine Conseillan, Château La Conseillante ranks among the most prestigious references of Pomerol on Bordeaux’s Right Bank. Incorporated into the Nicolas family estate in 1871, it has endured through the ages while continuing to produce exceptional wines.
The Vineyard
The vineyard covers 11.13 hectares at the heart of the Pomerol appellation. The soils consist of 60% grey clay and 40% sandy gravel, offering an exceptional terroir to vines averaging 35 years of age.
The Vintage
The year 2024 was marked by an exceptionally warm winter (+1.3°C) and rainy (785 mm), followed by an early bud break on March 20 and flowering on June 5. The hot, dry summer from mid-July, with 10 days exceeding 30°C in August, promoted a slow véraison for Merlot and a later one for Cabernet Franc. These climatic conditions resulted in grapes of exceptional quality, harvested between September 20 and October 4.
Winemaking and Aging
Plot-based winemaking is carried out in 22 temperature-controlled, epoxy-coated concrete vats and 5 raw concrete micro-vats. After a 5-day cold pre-fermentation maceration, the maceration period lasts 28 to 30 days. 5% of the production is made via whole-cluster fermentation. Aging takes place over 15 months, with 70% in new French oak barrels and 30% in one-wine barrels, allowing the wine to develop its aromatic complexity.
Blend
80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc.
