Description
The freshness and richness of a Pauillac red wine
The estate
With a vineyard located on the greatest terroirs of Pauillac, Château Grand-Puy Ducasse is one of the most beautiful properties of the prestigious appellation located on Bordeaux’s Left Bank. Founded in 1675, this 5th Cru Classé stands out for its wines offering a precise definition of the Pauillac terroir, for their structure and their incredible capacity for ageing.
The vineyard
Château Grand-Puy Ducasse is a Pauillac wine from a vineyard gradually built up and assembled by the lawyer Pierre Ducasse in the 18th century. This 40-hectare terroir is spread over three large plots. The vines are 25 years old on average and are planted on silica-gravel terroirs.
The wine
Since the 2020 vintage, Château Grand-Puy Ducasse has had a new label celebrating the 200th harvest. It is a tribute to the date of the creation of the estate in 1675, which decorates the top of the label. The estate's coat of arms, now with lighter and more elegant lines, is accompanied by the historical motto "Regis Semper Amici" (friends forever) inking the link between two families since the marriage of Pamela Ducasse and Édouard Duroy de Suduiraut in 1822. This innovative graphic identity is part of the visionary project called "Renaissance" of Château Grand-Puy Ducasse. The illustrious Pauillac estate with a 350-year history is currently undergoing major restructuring work on its vat room and cellar.
The vintage
A mild, wet winter advanced early vine development. Subsequently, the spring and summer were particularly hot and dry, but with limited impact on the vineyard. Although the hailstorm of 20 June did not cause any damage to the vines, the rain that accompanied it was beneficial. Despite low yields, the quality was exceptional.
Winemaking and ageing
Manual harvesting followed by meticulous sorting. Careful selection of batches. Vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels.
Blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (58%)
Merlot (40%)
Petit Verdot (2%).
