The estate
With its vineyard situated on the greatest terroirs of Pauillac, Chateau Grand-Puy Ducasse is one of the most beautiful properties in the prestigious appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux. This 5th Classified Growth is distinguished by its wines, which offer a very precise expression of the Pauillac terroir through tremendous structure and incredible aging potential.
The vineyard
Patiently assembled by lawyer Pierre Ducasse in the 18th century, Chateau Grand-Puy Ducasse today reigns over a 40-hectare vineyard, spread over three large plots. The vines, which are 25 years old on average, are planted on soils of Garonne gravel and silica gravel.
The vintage
A vintage marked by a mild winter and a rainy spring, 2019 will nevertheless be remembered as a sunny year. This vintage highlights in the glass both the climatic contrasts of the year and the characteristics of the terroir. The harvests began on September 23 and ended on October 10, yielding superb grapes, endowed with fantastic richness.
The winemaking
Once the harvest had been carried out by hand and the grapes had been rigorously selected through manual and then optical sorting, the vinification was carried out in thermoregulated stainless steel vats. Some of the batches also went through malolactic fermentation in new oak barrels. The First Wine is aged in oak barrels, 35% of which are first use oak.
The blend
The Chateau Grand-Puy Ducasse 2019 is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (53%), supplemented with Merlot (47%).
