After a difficult start to the year with abundant rainfall in the Bordeaux wine region, the beautiful summer of 2018 lifted the spirits of the wine communiy. The Grand Cru Classe of Pauillac, Chateau Grand-Puy Ducasse 2018 stands as a testament to the exceptional quality of this vintage.
Carried out under plenty of sunshine, the harvest yielded magnificent grapes, perfectly ripened Merlot and dazzling Cabernet, confirming the potential of the 2018 vintage.
The Grand Vin of the property, the 2018 vintage of the Chateau Grand-Puy Ducasse is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (70%) and Merlot (30%). At the tasting, this vintage presents a beautiful purple-garnet color. The aromatic bouquet opens with beautiful notes of black berries, cassis and spice. Notes of cedar, a signature of the great wines of Pauillac, and pencil lead appear when the wine is swirled in the glass. On the palate, the wine rolls out a beautiful texture, a powerful structure with dense tannins and slight woody notes, while maintaining a great freshness in the mouth. A very nice 2018 vintage for Chateau Grand-Puy Ducasse, which will blossom fully by 2024-2038.
