The Chateau de Sales is made with a blend of 86% Merlot, 10.5% Cabernet Franc and 3.5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard is in the Pomerol appellation over 45.5 hectares in complex soils consisting of small gravel and iron oxide sand, which provides ideal conditions for cultivating the vines.
The 2003 Chateau de Sales is atypical of the estate because of the extreme temperatures in 2003 during the growing season. On the nose, there are ripe fruity aromas while there are round, plush tannins on the palate. This balanced wine offers a surprising length. Best to drink now.
