Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Château d'Yquem Case 1986 - 1996 - 2006

Tasting

Château d'Yquem 1986
Bright orange colour. The nose opens on candied citrus fruits, mandarin and orange marmalade, before evolving towards quince paste and tarte Tatin, enhanced by saffron and notes of cedar, sandalwood and white truffle. On the palate, vibrant and airy, the wine offers a silky mid-palate and a finish with refined, harmonious bitterness.

Château d'Yquem 1996
Deep, bright golden colour. The nose, of great finesse, blends ripe orange, mirabelle plum, quince paste and saffron, with hints of vanilla and honey. On the palate, lively and vertical, it reveals a dense, smooth mid-palate, extended by a long, saline finish.

Château d'Yquem 2006
Early amber colour. The nose, generous and complex, combines warm spices, candied citrus fruits, quince paste, green tea and caramel. On the palate, freshness dominates, supported by an airy texture and a dense mid-palate. The finish, with its beautiful bitterness, highlights notes of citrus and spice.

The timeless elegance of a great Sauternes sweet wine in a case bringing together three vintages

The estate
A true legend of Bordeaux, Château d'Yquem's winemaking history began in 1593 when the Sauvage family acquired the estate. Raised to the unique rank of Premier Cru Supérieur in 1855, this jewel embodies absolute excellence. Today, the estate belongs to the LVMH group, led by Bernard Arnault, while Pierre Lurton oversees its management. More than just a wine, it is a globally renowned luxury brand, celebrated for its extreme demands, never hesitating to sacrifice an entire harvest if the quality is not perfect.

The vineyard
Located at the highest point of the Sauternes appellation, the terroir benefits from an exceptional geological mosaic combining gravel, sand and clay-limestone soils. This unique position takes advantage of the morning mists rising from the Ciron river, essential to the development of noble rot. The estate, committed to an environmentally responsible approach with a conversion to organic farming, carries out extremely meticulous hand-harvesting through successive selective picking, gathering only perfectly concentrated berries.

The case
To mark the year 2026, Château d'Yquem has created an exceptional selection bringing together three legendary vintages: 1986, 1996 and 2006. Spanning these three decades, this mixed case offers a journey into the very heart of the estate's identity, testifying to its remarkable ageing potential and its unrivalled ability to defy time.
