The estate
Located south of Bordeaux, Château d'Yquem is among the finest benchmarks of the great wines of Sauternes. This legendary Premier Cru Classé Supérieur benefits from an exceptional terroir and produces lusciously sweet wines sought after worldwide.
The vineyard
Château d’Yquem is an extraordinary place, nestled in the heart of the hills of the Sauternes appellation, with around one hundred hectares of vineyards planted on a mosaic of gravelly-sandy soils.
The vintage
Shaped by an exceptionally hot and dry summer, the superb Château d’Yquem 2016 shines with purity and airy elegance, confirming its status as an icon among the Grands Crus Classés of Sauternes.
Winemaking and aging
Harvesting began on September 27, 2016 and continued until November 4 with 4 successive passes, with nearly 75% of the crop picked during the final two weeks. The selection for the blend reflects extreme precision at the time of vinification, ensuring that only the finest botrytized berries with perfect acidity levels were kept. The result lives up to the work and care devoted by the technical teams at Château d’Yquem under the direction of the talented Francis Mayeur.
