Description
The estate
Chateau d’Issan is a Bordeaux estate renowned since the 12th century. This great Margaux wine has been elevated to the height of its potential by the Lorenzetti family, who also own estates in Saint-Estephe and Pauillac, together with the Cruse family.
The vineyard
The 59-hectare vineyard of Chateau d'Issan covers three appellations. Most of the vineyard is planted in hills of gravel and alluvial soil in Margaux.
The vintage
After a relatively mild winter, spring turned out to be quite cool. The month of June started with some chilly days, offset by summer temperatures between 24 and 28. The very warm summer allowed for a beautiful veraison of the vines, which were further invigorated in September by a few rainy days and cool nights, delivering fully ripe berries in time for harvest.
The winemaking
Harvest from September 25 to October 11. Plot-by-plot vinification. Thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks. Gentle extraction. Blended in mid-January.
The blend
Cabernet sauvignon (70%), merlot (30%).
The tasting
The Chateau d'Issan 2019 is a wine with precise tannins and perfect balance. Aromatic and textured, this 2019 vintage highlights the richness and harmony of a great Margaux red wine.
